ACADEMY AWARDS ACCREDITED JAPANESE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL JOINS ST KILDA FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAM IN 2017
For the first time, St Kilda Film Festival has this year partnered with Academy Awards® accredited international film festival, Short Shorts Film Festival Asia.
The 2017 program will showcase the future of Japanese filmmaking with a selection of short films being shown from the largest short film festival in Asia.
In a nod to the talent of those showcased in the Short Shorts Film Festival, the International Screening Program will showcase eight films across two nights - Monday 22 May and Saturday 27 May. It is guaranteed to provide filmgoers with an insight into the next generation of Japanese cinema.
The Short Shorts Film Festival Asia began in Harajuku, Tokyo in 1999 and has grown into one of the most highly accredited film festivals. Each year, the festival receives more than 5,000 short films created by emerging talents and industry heavyweights from over 100 countries. Similar to St Kilda Film Festival’s Top 100 Short Films program, the Short Shorts Film Festival is recognised as a qualifying festival for the short film categories of the annual Academy Awards®.
