Arts Centre Melbourne is bringing the inaugural Asia TOPA: Asia-Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts to Melbourne, an artistic celebration of its relationship with contemporary Asia.
XO State is a mini eclectic festival within Asia TOPA happening in late February. This unique festival involves audiences sitting on the huge State Theatre stage for immersive performances from Asia-Pacific based artists. Each night features a DUSK and DARK program.
One of the DARK headliners is Japan’s acid-punk group Bo Ningen. The band have affiliations with fellow London post-punkers Savages, with whom they have just released their collaborative record Words For The Blind to critical acclaim on November 17. Savages’ Jehnny Beth also lends her vocals on the III album track ‘CC’, but it’s Bo Ningen’s musical ferocity that has earned them chops from the likes of tastemakers such as Pitchfork, The New York Times, NME and Noisey.
