The 2016 Australia-Japan Spring Gala Dinner held on September 16 at Crown Towers was once again a resounding success, attracting a full house of 235 guests. The event provided an excellent opportunity for celebrating the Australia-Japan relationship, and networking among Japanese and Australian business, educational and social communities.
Special guests included His Excellency Mr Sumio Kusaka, Ambassador of Japan to Australia, the Consul General of Japan to Melbourne Ms Keiko Haneda, Chairman of the Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee Sir Rod Eddington, and President of the Legislative Council of Victoria Mr Bruce Atkinson, as well as representatives of a range of Australian and Japanese organisations and individuals active in the Australia-Japan relationship.
This year guests were treated to an insightful address by our Guest Speaker The Hon Andrew Robb AO, featuring some interesting "behind-the-scenes" anecdotes about the world of international trade negotiations. Guests also witnessed the presentation of the Japan Foreign Minister's Commendation Certificates to both the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Melbourne, and the Japan Society of Melbourne, recognising the outstanding contribution made by both organisations over many years.
The Spotlight Performance by the charming Japanese Folk Band "Ichimadin" provided guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Okinawa's relaxed and colourful culture.
The Gala Dinner was made possible by the generous support of Gold Sponsors Murray Goulburn Co-Operative Ltd, Swisse Wellness, and Silver Sponsors Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, and Toyota, and a number of companies that kindly donated door prizes and gifts for the event. On behalf of our members and guests, the AJSV Chairman and President would like to express their sincere appreciation for the professional excellence and dedication of the AJSV team responsible for organising and staging this impressive prestigious event - Robyn Heraud, Deborah Vega, Celeste Koravos, D'Arcy Butler and Kaori Chiba.
